The Princeton Geniza Lab has been devoted to the study of documentary sources from the Cairo Geniza since 1985. The lab’s work consists of research, transcription and database design.
We study ephemeral, unique texts, including letters, legal documents, accounts and lists.
Our research team includes undergraduates, graduate students, postdocs and faculty from Princeton and other universities.
We run an open-access database of geniza documents called the Princeton Geniza Project. Founded to make the unpublished transcriptions of S. D. Goitein available to researchers, the PGP has grown to include the work of dozens of other Geniza scholars.
