Bio/Description

Gavin McDowell (PhD, École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris, 2017) was most recently a postdoctoral researcher within the Faculté de théologie et de sciences religieuses and the Institut d’études anciennes et médiévales of Université Laval (Québec City, Canada), where he was working on a project entitled “Old Testament Saints: The Pseudepigrapha as Hagiography.” His doctoral thesis, “The Sacred History in Late Antiquity,” examined the relationship between the rabbinic pseudo-midrash Pirqe de-Rabbi Eliezer and two cognate writings, the Second Temple book of Jubilees and the Syriac Cave of Treasures. In addition to the Cairo Geniza, his research interests include the reception of biblical, deuterocanonical, and parabiblical literature within Christianity and Judaism.
