Roni Shweka

Bio/Description

Roni Shweka is an expert in late antique and medieval rabbinic literature, especially from the gaonic period. His publications include philological studies and digital humanities work. He was part of the Friedberg Genizah Project team, where, among other things, he helped develop the “joins suggestions” algorithms, a method for piecing together fragmentary manuscripts using computer vision–based image-recognition. He designed the database and the retrieval program for the Online Treasury of Talmudic Manuscripts at the National Library of Israel, and designed and maintained the database and all the computer programs for the Thesaurus of Talmudic Manuscripts, a catalogue of 9,000 Talmudic manuscripts and fragments from more than 300 libraries.
